COBRA Participant - Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: When do my COBRA benefits begin?
A: COBRA is retroactive back to the day after group coverage was terminated. Q: When can I use my COBRA benefits, after I have sent the completed election form and premium to you? A: It can take a couple of weeks after electing COBRA to show up in a carrier's system. Q: What do I do if I need to visit the doctor and the carrier isn't showing my coverage? A: Let the provider know that you have recently elected COBRA and that there may be a delay in their system. See if they can bill you and reprocess the claim once you are showing in the system. Q: When are my COBRA premium payments due? A: The first COBRA payment is due within 45 days of electing COBRA (date on COBRA Election Form). All remaining COBRA payments are due on the 1st day of each month with a 30 day grace. NOTE: As long as the payment is post marked (on the envelope you are mailing) by the Post Office within 30 days of the 1st of the month, the payment will be considered on time. Q: What forms of payment are acceptable? A: Payments can be made by check, money order or online bill pay through your bank. Q: How long can I be eligible for the ARRA Subsidy? A: The ARRA Subsidy (reduced rates) can be available for up to 15 months. Q: I sent in my COBRA Premium payment, but it hasn't cleared the bank yet, what is taking so long? A: The first and last week of the month are the busiest times for premium processing, be rest assured that we have your payment and it has been applied to your account. If it still hasn't cleared the bank within two weeks, please call us at (503) 946-3298 x 1004 to make sure the payment was received. |
